ABOUT THE RECODE
WHAT IS RECODE LAREDO?
ReCode Laredo is the City of Laredo's initiative to rewrite our land development code. This project is a follow-up to the City Council adopted comprehensive plan, Viva Laredo, which aims to provide a more connected, sustainable, and affordable future, embodying the values and needs of the Laredo community.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
The Land Development Code regulates how and where we build and grow as a City. By updating this code, we plan to improve the process and allow for more creative and sustainable solutions as Laredo moves into the future.
Laredo's current Land Development Code was written nearly 30 years ago. The code requires a complete re-haul in order to enable the development of the kinds of spaces and places our community voiced they want to see in the years to come. This update will address critical issues such as housing options, natural resources, affordability, transportation options, and access to healthy lifestyles.
Public Meetings are happening in your district!
In the next months, the City of Laredo Planning & Zoning department will be having public gatherings (with free tacos) in each of Laredo's eight districts. Stay tuned to find out when and where!
